Position Summary
The CNA/Patient Transporter reports to the Director/Assistant Director and is responsible for patient transportation to/from Westland House while abiding by all traffic laws. Transporters will schedule patient appointments and manage appointment follow up, and maintain an appointment log.
Transporters are expected to be detail oriented and prioritize safety by immediately reporting any unusual occurrence that may take place with the patient during transport, and/or with the company’s vehicles. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, transporting patients, obtaining patient weights, performing patient lifts, moving equipment, cleaning equipment/vehicles, ensuring vehicles are full of gas and properly maintained. Transporters are responsible for assisting clinical staff with patient movement and ambulation according to lift team criteria.
Transporters are expected to be self-starters, able to follow directions, to solve problems, and follow through task completion. They must have verbal skills, excellent customer service skills, and be able to exhibit a calm and thoughtful demeanor in difficult or potentially volatile circumstances. Transporters are expected to comply with all Department and Hospital policies and be able to perform the specific skills as outlined in the Competency and Skills Check List. Important dimensions of this position consist of professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, and good public/customer relations.
When there are no scheduled transports, and/or after appointment drop-off’s, the Transporter is expected to report back to Westland House, and will be assigned additional tasks, up to and including CNA tasks assigned by the Nursing Home Administrator.
Experience
One year of experience preferred with working knowledge of patient transportation equipment. One year of experience as a nurse aide is preferred. Understanding of medical terminology is required.
Education
High school diploma, G.E.D. or combination of education and relevant work experience preferred.
Licensure/Certifications
Valid California driver’s license required. State of California C.N.A. certification required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.
Other
An acceptable driving record of three points or less and participation in the DMV pull-notice program.
