Position  Summary:   

The Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner (CV NP) reports to the Director of Tyler Heart Institute.

The CV NP facilitates care to patients in need of inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular services and testing. 

The CV NP will be responsible for assisting with the management of the patient pre and post procedure as well as assisting the physicians with patient flow for designated patients within the service line. The CV NP serves as a patient advocate and liaison and bridges communication on the care of the patient with professional staff in the clinic and hospital settings.

The CV NP must have ability to assess, triage, and act upon patient conditions that are deemed urgent/emergent. This includes timely communication with reading and referring Medical and clinical staff while initiating appropriate care.

The CV NP participates in continued strategic planning and program development with in the service line including  the Congestive Heart Failure and Structural Heart Programs

The CV NP works in partnership with other APP staff within Tyler Heart. Demonstrates and understanding of the Cardiopulmonary/Vascular Rehab and Wellness. Initiates education and referrals as appropriate.

The CV NP provides clinical support to the noninvasive leadership and staff by participating in interdisciplinary planning, triaging, and care management

The CV NP works in collaboration with medical staff to assure that the following studies are conducted appropriately:

Stress Echocardiograms, Treadmills, Dobutamine  Cardiac CT, Stress Echocardiograms, Bubble Studies, and Cardiac Nuclear Imaging testing. Position works collaboratively with members of the nursing, cardiology and medical staff. The CV NP maintains registered nurse competencies by possessing the skills and knowledge to competently provide appropriate patient care.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions under general Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedure approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (CIDP), and provides routine care and management of the patient with acute and chronic complaints in collaboration with the supervising physician and through implementation of standardized procedures. The NP possesses skills and knowledge to competently provide excellent patient care, offer a high level of compassion, patience, and subject matter expertise. The NP will also educate patients and families in terms of services provided by the hospital and community resources when appropriate.

Experience:

Demonstrated teaching, leadership, and critical thinking skills are essential. Clinical background in cardiovascular management is required with a minimum two (2) years of recent experience in an Acute Care Setting.  Knowledge of cardiac registries and quality improvement is preferred.  Experience with nursing research is also preferred

Education:

As necessary for required licensures.  Master’s Degree in Nursing and relevant Nurse Practitioner training certification preferred.
