Job Description:

Under the leadership of the department director and/or the assistant director of pharmacy operations, the pharmacy technician is responsible for assisting in pharmacy department activities not requiring a pharmacist’s professional judgment. Duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining patient records/drug profiles, unit dose medication preparation, sterile product preparation, pharmaceutical calculations, data entry into pharmacy computer systems, filling and managing automated dispensing devices, sterile IV and non-sterile additive and chemotherapy compounding, and assisting the pharmacist in providing quality pharmaceutical care. Important dimensions of this position consist of professional commitment, team work, interpersonal skills, safety, good customer relations, fiscal responsibility and broad pharmacy knowledge.

Experience 

At least three years pharmacy technician experience required. Hospital experience preferred. 

Education

Education as required for State of California Pharmacy Technician licensure.

Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment requiring the applicable skill, and must complete and pass all annual competencies.

Licensure/Certifications

State of California Pharmacy Technician license or undergraduate California Pharmacist Intern license is required. For those hired after March 1, 2024, having the National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) is preferred, and it becomes a requirement within the first six months of employment. Existing employees hired prior to March 1, 2024, must also obtain PTCB certification within their first year of employment. Additionally, preference is given to those with American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification, which must also be obtained within the first six months of employment.

This position requires driving. Individuals assigned to driving company vehicles to offsite locations for medication delivery and Pyxis maintenance must possess a valid California driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record of three points or less, and participate in the DMV pull-notice program.

Assigned Work Hours:

varied, AM and PM shifts, every other weekend, one holiday per year, occasional coverage of Nights to cover sick calls and vacations.

Pay Range (based on years of applicable experience):

$35.55

to

$47.50

The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.

Hourly Evening Shift Differential: $2.27

Hourly Night Shift Differential: $3.41
