Job Description:
The Mental Health Educator - Unlicensed in Prevention reports to the Assistant Director of Community Health and Prevention. The educator in this role is responsible for delivering psychoeducation focused on preventing mental illness in youth and enhancing mental wellness for patients within Ohana and in the community at large. Tasks for this position include facilitating engaging curriculum with middle school students in local schools; facilitating classes and workshops related to parenting and/or youth mental health throughout the community, facilitating support groups at Ohana for community members (e.g. postpartum mom’s or dad’s group); participating in health education tabling events; co-facilitating Ohana’s Youth Advisory Council; and occasionally responding to crises that affect local schools. Prevention topics include, but are not limited to, effective parenting, co-parent communication, coping skills, mindfulness, resiliency, self-compassion, sleep, nutrition, movement, social connection, early warning signs of mental illness, and drug and alcohol prevention, and social media. The educator utilizes developmentally appropriate language, youth-oriented teaching techniques, and expressive modalities to accomplish the above. The educator will also conduct evaluations of the programs delivered. Finally, the educator will fulfill other necessary tasks as needed to support Ohana’s mission and the goals of the Prevention program as assigned by their manager.
As an associate mental health clinician in this role, the educator I will have responsibility for curriculum development as it pertains to mental health and will respond to inquiries of a clinical nature. The educator models ethical thinking, behavior, and teaching according to the BBS, state and national standards and laws. Note: there are no individual therapy hours offered in this position, as this role is primarily educational.

Experience:
Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children, adolescents or families and knowledge of the factors that promote mental health as well as risk factors for mental illness.
This position requires experience in delivering hands-on classes for youth; ability to work in a team setting; interpersonal and communication skills to include public speaking. Fluency, the ability to communicate orally, and the ability to read and write in English is required (English and Spanish preferred). The educator in this role will be assigned to middle schools that serve primarily Spanish speaking families, so the ability to speak in Spanish to parents when giving presentations will be an asset.
Intermediate computer skills are required. The ability to project a positive, warm, friendly and enthusiastic attitude to the children in our community is required. Excellent customer service is required.
Education:
Master’s degree in Social Work or related area (Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy) is required.
Licensure/Certifications:
Registration as an associate with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.is required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required. Will complete mandatory 5150 training by Monterey County to obtain 5150 certification and obtain 5150 Professional staff authorization yearly.

Exempt role; primarily 8 hours shifts, including evenings and weekends.
