Job Description:

The Gardener reports to the Assistant Director or designated Supervisor and performs routine maintenance of facility grounds, garages, driveways, walkways, and parking lots by operating power and/or hand equipment to keep the facility’s lawns, trees, shrubs, bushes and flower beds in a clean, safe, and attractive condition. Maintains weed control and removes dead foliage.  Monitors and performs routine maintenance on landscape sprinkler/irrigation systems.  Participates in projects and landscape renovations. Responds to, and assists with, emergency and disaster situations as needed and directed. Inspects and maintains all areas of responsibility of the Grounds Department on a regular basis. Maintains a safe and functional environment.

Experience
One or more years of diversified grounds keeping/landscaping/gardening work experience. Must have the ability to work safely and effectively with grounds keeping maintenance equipment. Knowledge of local native plants, basic irrigation, and experience with power tools used in a forest setting preferred. The ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language is required.

Education
High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent work experience in related field.

Licensure/Certifications

A valid California driver’s license and be maintained through the duration of employment as a Gardener.

Other
This position requires driving. In addition to a valid CA driver’s license, the following are required: An acceptable driving record, with three points or less, and participation in the DMV pull-notice program.

Assigned Work Hours:

Tuesday through Saturday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the organization--when working on projects or in team settings with other gardeners.
