The Surgical Services Zone Educator reports to the Director of Educational Services. (S)he is responsible for providing formal and informal education programs for the Main OR Staff, OPSC OR Staff, and Sterile Processing staff with planning assistance from the Assistant Directors and the Directors of Surgical Services. The Surgical Services Zone Educator possesses a broad scope of knowledge and skills to facilitate improved patient outcomes and improved staff performance in the clinical setting. The Surgical Services Zone Educator possesses the skills and knowledge to competently provide nursing services to staff and patients.
Must be currently licensed to practice in the State of California with no less than five years of recent acute care hospital operating room clinical and teaching experience. The Surgical Services Zone educator must be experienced in formal and informal teaching of adult learners.
Minimum of BSN required or (1) currently enrolled in formal BSN program; or (2) enrolled in courses that can be applied to completion of formal BSN program. MSN or MSN with a specialization in nursing education strongly preferred.
State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS (required). CNOR certification is required within 12 months of hire. Must have current competencies in Educational Needs Analysis formulation and implementation. AORN Clinical Educator Certificate course must be completed within 24 months of hire date. Current membership in AORN preferred.
