Job Description:

Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula seeks a Speech Therapist in its Monterey, California location.

Duties: Provide skilled speech pathology services to patients who have suffered from neurological disease, CVAs, head injuries, respiratory compromise, head and neck cancer, and/or other medical complications. Apply evidence-based diagnostics and treatment methods to improve quality of life in patients with cognitive-linguistic impairments, speech or motor disorders, receptive and expressive language disorders, voice disorders, swallowing disorders, and augmentative and alternative communication strategies. Develop and apply treatment plans, monitor patient outcome/progress, adjust speech therapy treatment methods according to patient progress, and keep medical records/charts updated pursuant to company practices and regulatory requirements.  Interact with and practice in collaboration with a variety of professionals involved in patient care in the acute and outpatient setting.

Qualifications and Required Experience:

Master’s degree in Communicative Disorders-Speech-Language Pathology, Speech/Language Pathology, Audiology, or a closely related field (or foreign equivalent), and 1 year of experience as a Speech Therapist or Speech Language Pathologist, or closely related position. State of California Speech Language Pathologist license is also required.

Specialized Experience: Full 1 year of experience in a medical setting (Skilled Nursing Facility or Acute Care) with: bedside swallow evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders; diet recommendations or modifications; standardized and informal assessment and treatment of motor speech disorders such as Dysarthria and Apraxia of Speech; standardized and informal assessment and treatment of neurogenic language disorders such as Aphasia; assessment and rehabilitation for individuals using Alternative and Augmentative communication (AAC); standardized and informal assessment and treatment of Cognitive-linguistic disorders such as individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and dementia.  State of California Speech Language Pathologist license is required.

Education Required:
