Job Description:

Under the leadership of the department director/assistant director, nursing supervisor, and/or charge nurse, the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for planning directing, assessing and providing nursing care according to the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and a broad nursing knowledge.

The registered nurse is an experienced critical care nurse who shall orient new staff, precept students, and new staff and be able to adapt to different assignments while maintaining flexibility in order to meet the needs of the organization.  

                          

The Specialty Float Pool RN may also be responsible for the admission process, which includes obtaining patient history, conducting physical assessment, administering medication, intravenous access, cardiac monitoring and strip interpretation, and educating the patient and family.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of critical care experience OR Emergency Department experience required
  •  Above average critical thinking, sharp assessment skills, quick decision-making ability, effective communication, ability to work under pressure (required), and ability to work in a fast- paced and often stressful environment, and the ability to work autonomously are essential.
  •  Must have knowledge of hemodynamics and basic IV skills, and a thorough understanding of cardiac rhythms. 

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Must pass the arrhythmia interpretation/telemetry test at 85% prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment of telemetry/monitored patients, then per department requirement. 

Licensure/Certification:

  • State of CA RN license required
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS (required).
  • American Heart Association Provider ACLS certifications must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider PALS certification to be completed within 6 months of hire and before independent assignment of pediatric patients.
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
  • NIHSS Certification.
