Under the leadership of the Nutrition Services Director and their assigned supervisor, the Shift Leader at Westland House is responsible for assuring that quality food production and clinical nutrition services occurs at Westland House. This position schedules staff to cover all positions and covers staff shortages during emergencies; assures accuracy of the inventory and ordering processes; maintains disaster supplies; identifies potential and actual equipment failures, and works cooperatively with engineering and/or outside vendors, as appropriate; and identifies personnel issues, referring them to the supervisor and/or director. This position, working with the registered dietitian (RD), provides medical nutrition therapy to meet the patient’s nutrition and education needs through screening all newly admitted patients before five (5) days, re-visiting patients based on referral or nutritional risk, completing the minimum data set (MDS), evaluating food and liquid intake, etc. This position is a liaison between clinical nutrition, nursing, and the food production staff, assuring that diet orders, tray cards and patient trays are accurate, and modifying special diet menus, as needed.
Required: Fluency, the ability to communicate orally, and the ability to read and write in English is required. Intermediate computer skills are required. The ability to project a positive, warm, friendly and healing attitude to the patients of Westland House is required. Excellent customer service is required. Intermediate knowledge of diet therapy is required. Leadership skills and the ability to interact with management staff, clinical staff, our own employees and staff from other departments to resolve issues. Excellent problem solving skills and exceptional ability to prioritize is required.
Preferred: Hiring preference for Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) with skilled nursing facility (SNF) and/or hospital-based experience. Ability to communicate bilingually in English/Spanish
Education as required for Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification with the Association of Foodservice & Nutrition Professionals or DTR with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
CDM certification with the Association of Foodservice & Nutrition Professionals, DTR, or DTR eligible with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. DTR eligible applicants must successfully complete the DTR exam within six (6) months of employment. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required. ServSafe Certification is required within 90 days of employment.
