Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, nursing supervisor, and/or charge nurse, the registered nurse trainee is responsible and accountable for planning directing, assessing and providing nursing care according to the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and basic nursing knowledge.
The registered nurse trainee successfully completes a 6 month Perioperative 101 course, which includes didactic and clinical training. The nurse trainee continues precepting in various procedures including but not limited to: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Spine (ortho & neuro), Gynecology, Urology, Neurosurgical, ENT, Ophthalmology, Peripheral Vascular and Plastic, until safely independent.
One year acute care experience required; tele experience preferred. Must be able to work varied 8 hour shifts based on a pre-planned staffing schedule. Willingness and ability to be on-call on a rotational basis as scheduled and to respond within 45 minutes of call-back communication is essential.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS is required.
