Job Description:

Position  Summary:   

Under the leadership of the department director, the supervisor collaborates with the director and assistant director in planning, goal setting, developing department budgets, and coordinating supplies/equipment, staffing, and care/service to carry out the department’s responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner in conjunction with and support of Community Hospital’s strategic plan.

The supervisor is responsible and accountable for assigned tasks such as supervising the department’s daily operations, including but not limited to, being a resource and role model to staff for problem resolution with issues with patient care, service delivery, safety, supplies, equipment, computer software, and customer concerns.

The supervisor ensures staff has the appropriate orientation/training and ongoing competency for the care/service provided and that all staff adheres to Exceeding Expectations standards for professional conduct. This is achieved through clinical/didactic training, coaching, developing, evaluating staff performance, policy/procedure enforcement, and corrective action, if necessary.

The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that charge capture is accurate and timely. This will include, but not be limited to regular charge review and reconciliation, development of reports as indicated, follow up with staff when needed to ensure accurate charge capture is done.

The supervisor plays a supporting role along with assistant director to maintain quality initiatives through ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, collection and analysis of quality and performance improvement data, assisting with development of future performance improvement targets and quality initiatives, and development or revision of department policies and procedures, as needed. This includes monthly reports and consistent feedback to line staff.

The supervisor, in collaboration with assistant director and director supports financial viability with attention on expenses, revenue, utilization and productivity in assigned cost centers, and tactical execution of Lean concepts.  

Department services include respiratory and pulmonary function. The supervisor will be responsible to maintain all clinical competencies of the RCP and will assume clinical care responsibilities when indicated.


Three years of respiratory care clinical and supervisory experience in an acute care hospital, health system, or comparable health setting or equivalent combination of education and experience in an acute care hospital is required.    

Acute care to include critical care experience (ICU, NICU).


Education as required for required state license. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience with mentoring students and staff presentations is preferred.


State of CA RCP license required. RRT credential required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required. ACLS, NRP and PALS certifications must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment.

Assigned Work Hours:

12 hour shifts plus crossover and meeting coverage. Nights.
