Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, nursing supervisor, and/or charge nurse, the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for planning directing, assessing and providing nursing care according to the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and a broad nursing knowledge.
The qualified staff RN will partake in a training program for Level 2 Intensive Care Nursery and cross train for Mother-Baby Care in the Family Birth Center. Training will be completed on all shifts. Training includes outside resources and may require travel to UCSF Medical Center, in house multidisciplinary simulation drills that maybe be video taped and reviewed for teaching purposes, classroom lecture, and web-based learning. The majority of training will be completed with an experienced preceptor on the unit. Additional requirements include comprehensive education on breastfeeding.
Must be highly motivated, perform well under pressure, enjoy working with people and have a passion for working in a maternal-infant unit and Level 2 IICN. Excellent assessment skills and critical thinking skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced and often stressful environment and the ability to work autonomously are essential.
The IICN is a where the staff RN will be responsible for well-baby, nursery, IICN level 1 and 2 care and maintain the skills to stabilize for transfer level 3 babies. The staff RN will be expected to float to the FBC to provide mother-baby care. We are a BABY FRIENDLY hospital designated by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. The expectation for all staff is to adhere to the "10 Steps" of the BabyFriendly initiative.
At least one year of acute care RN nursing experience is required.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS is required. NRP must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment. STABLE preferred.

Assigned Work Hours:
This position will be an 8-hr shift position for the duration of the training program. Training will be held on varied shifts, days and nights. Once training is complete, RN will transition to 12-hr , Noc shift: 7P-7A.
