Job Description:

Under the leadership of the Diabetes Services Manager and the Diabetes Services Lead Educator, the medical assistant is responsible for assisting in the treatment of patients by performing the following duties: performs basic administrative, technical and medical supportive services for a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner.   The MA is responsible for performing varied activities, including office duties, telephone support, patient assistance, scheduling, ordering and completing purchase orders, sorting interoffice and USPS mail, and  maintaining office equipment. Patient assistance includes performing vital signs, glucometer downloading, glucometer teaching, and point of care labs. 

Experience:

Previous experience in an outpatient setting with patients with diabetes is preferred. Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish preferred. Demonstrated ability to write routine reports and correspondence using proper grammar and spelling. Ability to speak effectively with patients, customers or employees of the organization. Must maintain strict patient confidentiality, adhering to all HIPPA guidelines and regulations. Familiar with a PC and basic software, such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, etc.

Education:

Course to achieve a Medical Assistant Certificate is required. 

Licensure/Certification:

 American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification is required.  Completion of the ADCES Diabetes Paraprofessional Level 2 Program to be completed by month six.
