Job Description:
The Mail Clerk is responsible for processing incoming and outgoing correspondence from clients, members and providers regarding eligibility, claims status and benefit determinations.
Responsibilities
- Separate claims from regular mail, sort, count, date stamp and distribute to claims analysts.
- Scan paper claims to convert to EDI
- Identify claims for cancelled groups and forward to appropriate address.
- Distribute regular mail to appropriate staff members.
- Collect outgoing mail from various departments and prepare for mailing using Pitney-Bowes postage meter machine.
- Handle and distribute checks to Accounting Department
- Provide support and coverage to inter-departmental staff as needed.
- Perform other activities and functions as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
- Ability to operate mail processing equipment required to fulfill position responsibilities.
- Ability to operate spreadsheet, word processing programs and computer equipment required to fulfill position responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of business operations.
- Working knowledge of federal regulation specific to the administration of self-funded employer health and welfare plans, including ERISA, Department of Labor and Health and Human Services.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Readily adaptable to the changing needs of the business; able to manage multiple priorities; tolerance for ambiguity.
- Ability to use sound judgement, identify next steps to be taken, and develop appropriate solutions.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple parties to solve problems.

Skills and Education
- High school diploma; Associates degree, preferred.
- Minimum 1 to 3 years experience in a healthcare or insurance industry setting.
