Job Description:
The Lead Advance Practice Provider is responsible for providing direct consumer care to assigned consumers within an urgent care setting. In addition to consumer care, the APP Lead is responsible for supervising a group of Advanced Practice Providers in coordination with the Medical Director and Chief Operating Officer. Typical work scenarios require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, good judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills. Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. Responsibilities also include conducting regularly occurring meetings to facilitate information dissemination and support team engagement, participating in the design and implementation APP practice quality/outcome indicators, and facilitating consistent orientation processes and clinical practices across service lines. The position is part of a diad partnership working with lead clinical concierge to bring items of interest and concern to the medical director for his attention. The anticipated allocation of work is 60% clinical and 40% administrative.
Primary Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsible for ensuring that the department/service line is providing high quality provider services in the most cost-effective manner, and which reflect compliance with all standards of applicable organizations.
Participates in the design, implementation, monitoring, and ongoing revisions of APP practice quality/outcome indicators, and clinical practices to help realize the maximum benefits of implementing Advanced Practice Services.
Responsible for APP coverage for daily operations for assigned service line. Ensures for the provision of efficient and effective high-quality consumer care in the clinics, operational consistency of treatment, practice, and scope of service amongst the advanced practice providers.
Responsible for effectively supervising the performance of assigned APP. Interviews, hires, orients, educates, schedules, plans and assigns work to, and follows up on the work of and evaluates the performance of clinical staff in concert with the Medical Director. When necessary coaches, provides remediation training, administers positive discipline and assists in the discharge of assigned staff. Organizes, leads and conducts recurring provider meetings as well as individual ad hoc meetings and chart reviews with the individual providers in concert with the medical director.
Performs and provides treatments for minor acute illness, consumer examinations, making initial assessment, initiating treatment and referring to appropriate center of care when applicable.
Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
Instructs and counsels consumers by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
Develops and implements consumer management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. May be required to supervise ancillary staff such as Clinical Concierge. Serves as the first point of contact for required conflict resolution for clinical or workflow concerns amongst the APP’s or between the APP’s and clinical concierge.
Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions and refers consumers to specialists and to relevant consumer care options as appropriate.
Demonstrates good organizational skills in coordinating services with co-workers and other departments/services. Responds to stressful situations in a calm and rational manner and cooperates with all to facilitate integration of services.
Behaves in a professional and empathetic manner to build trust, comfort, understanding, and relationships with consumers and the secondary guest(s) and in-line with Studer Principles.
Responsible for the development, build, and maintenance of Epic templates, clinical workflows, and clinical efficiency efforts. Working with the medical director builds and maintains clinical references and networking information.
Responsible for reviewing the use of clinic administered medications, medication adherence, and proper prescribing practices.
Monitors clinical operations to identify any concerns with clinical workflows, performance, or staffing. Works with the chief operating officer and medical director to develop action plans for any identified deficiencies or areas of concern.
Basic Qualifications
Required
BA or BS in Relative Field
Master of Science in nursing
Successful completion of the American Nursing Association National Certification Test for Advanced Practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner
Five years’ experience as an ARNP in a family practice setting, urgent care, emergency setting or related facility
Preferred
Knowledge of urgent care medical specialty
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of EPIC
Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely consumer flow
Licensure/Certifications
Licensed by the State as an ARNP
Prescription authority licensure in State of California
