Job Description:
The Data Warehouse Engineer I/II is a member of the Health Information Technology (HIT) team and reports to the Enterprise Data Management and Analytics (EDMA) Manager. Individuals in this position work with a diverse array of stakeholders to identify, collect, develop, and curate enterprise data resources. Analyst I and II individuals perform similar types of work; however, Analyst II personnel are typically tasked with larger and/or more complex assignments.
Responsibilities
- Be apprised of end user data utilization
- Form relationships and coordinate with business stakeholders to identify data needs, clarify requirements, and implement solutions
- Design, develop, and deploy data structures and data transformations in the enterprise Modern Data Warehouse (MDW)
- Maintain and extend Epic Caboodle platform and develop custom Caboodle Data Modeling Components
- Develop and maintain data pipelines as well as API-based or file-based data flows between source systems and the data warehouse
- Resolve ambiguous language around key business questions and recommend potential solutions
- Support implementation of Enterprise Data Standards (EDS) and enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) standards
- Adhere to ethical principles and compliance standards in the acquisition, storage, management, interpretation, analysis, and disposal of data.
- Assist with Data Governance initiatives in the areas of: Data Quality; Data Classification and Security; Data Acquisition, Lifecycle, and Metadata Management; and Data Stewardship, Communication, and Training
- Actively contribute to all aspects of the project lifecycle including request intake and acknowledgment, project estimation, time-tracking, and prioritization of tasks.
- Assist with data system user security maintenance, reviews, and updates
- Provide data systems support for system/application projects, implementations, and/or upgrade cycles
- Assist Data Management and Analytics group with identification, development and validation of data sources
- Respond to analytics and data systems related incidents and assist with root cause analysis investigations and resolutions
Experience
- Analyst I - minimum 5 years of database development and/or data engineering experience
- Analyst II - minimum 7 years of database development and/or data engineering, with 2 years in a Healthcare setting
- Strong analytical, technical, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to assess requirements from multiple sources and their impact on potential solutions
- Ability to work in a complex multi-communication-channel environment
- Organized and proficient at tracking tasks, defining next steps, and following project plans
- Proficiency in:
- Advanced SQL, including window functions and common table expressions
- Data ETL concepts, processes, and tools such as MS SSIS, Datastage, TimeXtender, and/or Informatica
- Database and data warehousing concepts, including: data lakes; relational and dimensional database design concepts; and data modeling practices
- MS SQL Server Management Studio and Visual Studio
- Agile project management methods such as SCRUM, Lean, and/or Kanban
- Familiarity with:
- Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik, and/or other dynamic data visualization tools
- Basic Database Administration concepts
- Healthcare data structures, workflows, and concepts, including experience with data generated by Electronic Health Record systems like Epic, Cerner, etc.
Education
Bachelor Degree in a technical, scientific, and/or healthcare discipline; or, equivalent work experience.
Licensure/Certifications
- Epic Cogito, Clarity, and Caboodle certifications are required within 90 days of hire
- Epic Caboodle Development and Clarity-Caboodle Development certifications are required within 120 days of hire
- Agile Certified SCRUM Manager required for Analyst II position
- All certifications must be maintained throughout employment
