Under the leadership of the Educational Services department director, the Zone Educator supports the educational needs of ICU staff and provides consultative support to the Tyler Heart Institute. With input from the clinical teams, the Zone Educator identifies knowledge-driven performance gaps and designs evidence-based learning activities to improve patient outcomes. The Zone Educator maintains clinical competency in his/her primary areas of service. In addition to support for education on the clinical unit(s), the Zone Educators design and facilitate house-wide learning programs, including orientation, continuing education, and competency assessment.

3 years clinical experience in ICU, during the last 5 years. Open heart experience preferred. Experience with instructional design, formal and informal teaching, and learning evaluation preferred. Current membership in a nursing professional organization preferred.
Minimum of BSN (or currently enrolled to complete BSN within 18 months). MSN preferred.
State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS (required).
ACLS and PALS certification must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment. Must pass the CHOMP Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation and Treatment test at 85% prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment, then annually. Relevant nursing certification completed within 24 months of hire.
