Job Description:

The Art Program at Montage Health provides a restorative and invigorating counterpoint to the ambiance of ordinary healthcare settings. It benefits patients, families and staff by offering opportunities for enjoyment and curiosity, alongside contemplation - life affirming moments within the routine stress of a hospital visit. The collection includes ca. 7,000 objects and is divided into a fine art collection and a loan collection of work suitable for staff offices. A 2020 strategic plan guides the direction of the Art Program and current collections care priorities.

Position Summary: Under the leadership of the Foundation director and art curator, the Collection Manager is responsible for implementing, cataloging and supporting all aspects of Montage Health’s fine art and loan collections. This position also is the project manager and scheduler for all installations, as well as for removal of works at the hospital and offsite locations, and participates in art handling as needed.

This position acts as first point of contact for external and internal constituents. S/He will supervise staff, interns and volunteers performing related work.

Primary Functions:

Works directly with the leadership, external advisors and future art curator on all aspects and initiatives of the Art Program

Serves as registrar for the collection. Maintains accurate and complete database of all art works, to include location, appraised value if available, repair history and source. Maintains the organization of art storage.

Catalogs all art pieces and secures photographic images

Helps plan and coordinates the installation and removal of works at the hospital and offsite locations

Oversees loan program for staff offices

Leads, schedules and supervises support team

Collaborates with the Facilities Planning and Engineering teams to accommodate construction projects and maintenance needs

Oversees professional-level collections care, art handling, conservation, storage and framing of all artwork

Researches artworks as needed

Works with the Development team to track, record and acknowledge donors to the Art Program

Assists leadership and external advisors with preparation and implementation of quarterly Art Committee meetings and facilitates acquisitions.


Experience in a museum or equivalent, in particular with the management of art collections and the coordination and installation of fine art preferred.

Experience in database administration. Embark or similar databases preferred

Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports

Strong project management experience

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated knowledge of proper, professional art handling and storage techniques

Knowledge of materials, tools and equipment and related safety procedures

Strong research skills; some art historical experience preferred

Experience using Microsoft Office suite (primarily Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
