Under the leadership of the department director, the Administrative Assistant/Surgery Scheduler is responsible for the completion of daily clerical operations within the department including but not limited to scheduling of operative procedures and related duties. S/he maintains sensitive and confidential information. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality work, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and a broad clerical knowledge.
Working knowledge of general office and secretarial procedures including previous experience as a Surgery Scheduling Secretary in Acute Care Hospital Surgery Dept., Ambulatory Surgery Center, and/or Physician Office Practice preferred. Advanced level of medical terminology, understanding of CPT coding system, strong computer competency including beginning Microsoft Word and Excel, typing, filing, transcription and database management necessary. The ability to read, analyze, and understand surgery schedules/physician preference sheets, knowledge of posting and reconciling charges preferred. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages. Requires good knowledge of interface between physician’s office and acute hospital operating room. Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service, organization skills required.
High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent work experience in related field. Some college or business courses preferred.
